Finding Your Time

shower1Every day ritual is not something I’m good at.  I can’t even commit to taking a pill every day, much less carving out time for ritual.  All of us lead busy lives whether it’s family, work, or school – we always have something that we could be doing.

The key is finding your own time.  Every day isn’t even necessary.  Just time for you to have quiet, refocus your energy and give thanks for all your blessings.

For me, the total and complete water baby, one of the things I use is my shower time.  With three kids it’s not something I get every day, but at least every other day I have 20 minutes in relative quiet with the relaxation of hot water.

I don’t any tools but the water already there and my own thoughts.  I close my eyes and let the water stream through my hair – and I find myself having carved out ten minutes for my own small ritual.

When I don’t have time for an extended shower (or a shower, period) in a day I have one other technique that’s a little shorter, but even more effective for me.

moon1Every night once the kids and husband are asleep, shortly before I go to bed myself I take the dog out for one more spin around the yard.  Having always felt a deep connection to the moon and nature itself, this spin around the yard is often my most powerful time of my day.

I choose a spot in the middle of the yard and let the dog wander.  Turning my face up to the sky I let the air flow over me, close my eyes and soak it all in.  It recharges me, and always gives me a little buzz.  By the time I’ve cast my circle, said my piece and closed my circle the dog is ready to go in.  Of course, it helps that she’s proven herself to be sensitive and knows when to be quiet and when I’m ready to go in – but her familiar nature is a matter of a different article.

So, finding your time isn’t impossible.  It’s what feels right for you, and what fits into your daily life.  It could be a shower, preparing dinner, walking your family pet, or even ironing!  Take your every day activity and use it to connect to the divine.

I also feel a connection to the moon. Her power never fails to regenerate my soul.

A wonderful reminder for me that my daily shower can be a ritual. I need to re-stock it with sea salt, etc. for that purpose.
