Question of the Week #13 – Healing

So it is January 3rd and I am sitting in the waiting room of a local Winnipeg hospital writing this on my iTouch(ahhh the power of technology, it is truely a kind of magic.) At this moment I am waiting for my wife to have her day surgery. Last night was a healing circle for with a number of friends some of whom we have worked with a number of times and others I had never worked with. The difference in the flow of energy was interesting. It was also the first time the group I work with has held any for people other then ourselves. Everything went really well and brought to mind a number of question about small and larger group working which we will explore over the next few weeks. In the mean time today’s question is all about healing so let’s get to it.

Every spellbook you come across mentions healing and offers various suggestions about what to do. The challenge is that nearly each and every book offers something different. Certainly many of them are variations on them but even that can cause difficult. After all more often then not people don’t think all that much about healing until the need is upon them. This generally means that you don’t think about healing in advance, so you might just find yourself scrambling for a bit of healing magic.

So somethings happened and you need you work a little bit of healing magic, what are you going to do? Let’s break this down a little further and offer up some more details. You got your altar and whatever other magical tools you favour. What you don’t have is access to any of your books. So it is just you and your tools and now you have to make do.

So let’s hear what you would do and why. The why is just as important if not more so, anyone can do something but you need to know why, that is where the power is. As any alternative question what would you do in the same situation if you didn’t have access to your tools?

Well the question is done for this week, my wife’s surgery is finished as well and was a success.  Now to get her home and to figure out how to get this off my iTouch.

Alright so I’ve figured out how to transfer it off the touch and have got it posted here.  Sorry it is late and I look forward to reading everyones answers.

Wow, first I want to say I hope things are going well for your wife and you and that she is recovering well from her surgery.

For me, if I’m caught on the fly and I have no access to any tools or books or what have you, I cast a circle, I hold an image in my mind of the person who needs healing as if they are already well and everything is taken care of and I raise energy to that end, by chanting, singing, whatever method feels appropriate, then ask the Gods to aid me by helping the energy get to where it needs to go for the good of all involved. It’s simple and bare bones but ultimately, it gets the job done.

If I have access to tools I would charge a candle, place a photo of the person who needs the healing before it, and work in the same manner, using the candle and photo as a focus for the energy and as the candle burns down, so is the energy released to the person in need. Fire is a method that works well for me and that I relate to best. It’s almost my first go to, especially in a pinch for time or resources.

In all honesty, when it comes to healing magic, it is rare that I consult my books, including my subfolder of shadows on my laptop, simply because 9 times out of 10 I am one of those ‘scramble at the last minute’ people. I basically spend little time thinking about healing until it’s needed, and let’s face it – most of the time if healing is needed it tends to be an urgent, and usually unforeseen need.

So, in my case when I have all my tools, I like to use candles, and some object of the person in question. It can be a picture, something they made or had some connection in the creation of. Or a mental image works in a pinch. And then any healing energy I have I send to the person via that focus point.

Now as for being without magical tools – I know what’s being asked but I honestly can’t think of a situation when I would be relieved if my tools. The only tools that really matter IMO are your hands, heart, and mind. Everything else, while nice to use, isn’t really needed at all. So if stuck in the middle of nowhere without my usual ritual space, I would still cast the same circle (the quarters can be called and the deities asked to attend whether the candle to welcome them is physically or mentally held), and work the same magic as before. As noted above – I find a mental image works very well when there is no physical representation of the person.

I’m not really to refined in my methods, being young and rather prone to just winging things with my instincts =^.^= but healing is what I’ve always wanted to do and my first spells/rituals were for a loved one who needed healing about 3 years ago and I can’t help but remember them so I’ll tell you what I did and why
well the healing was for someone who was damaging themselves with drugs and I was worried about them internally so I decided to make them something to drink so it would have physical contact with what I wanted to heal. I cast a circle, took a cup of water and put a piece of sun stone in it, I can’t remember why it was sun stone at the moment but I’m sure I had a reason. I used a twig if what I hope was ash (I spent a few days looking through the woods in late fall trying to find an ash tree by the bark and the fallen leaves around it) and used that to direct my energy and my desire to make the person healthy again into the cup and the water while chanting a little thing I’d written up about everything the water touched, blood, circulatory system, urinary system, liver, and such to be healed and made stronger. and imagined him being healthy happy and no longer doing drugs, then the next time I saw them I had them drink it with the stone still in it (he didn’t drink the stone of course) and that was that.

that’s not really an answer to the question I guess, so I think if something were to pop up and needed healing I would make a treatment from the heart that specifically suited your and the persons needs. something as simple as touching the spot that needed to be healed and imagining the wound or disease being gone
